cyber bullying

Your Students' Union strives to create a safe environment for all students. We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to discrimination, bullying or harassment of any type.

Sadly social media is increasingly being used to target individuals, particularly via sites like Yik Yak where users believe that they are anonymous - they are not.

Simon Stone, the University's campus police officer, said: "Please be aware if you are posting hateful, personal or demeaning comments about someone on social media sites and you think you are anonymous; think again!

"You will always leave a trace, because your mobile device or computer has a unique address which will link you to the social media site via your mobile service provider, your internet provider and any WIFI access you log into."

The Union will actively continue to work with IT services to identify cyber bullies and the appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. The officer team are also working closely with the University to produce clear guidelines on the use of social media.

Don't suffer in silence please seek advice if you are the subject of unwelcome posts and alert the service provider:

And if you are thinking of posting personal or derogatory remarks on social media, then don't as you can always be identified.
