Proud to Shout About is a platform for students to celebrate their successes in being part of the union. Whether it’s running societies or simply moments that make you proud, this is the space to share them. It’s all about highlighting the effort, dedication, and passion that students put into their university life and giving them the recognition they deserve.
Recently, our Mario Kart Society teamed up with the Game Development Society and the Computing Society to host a Mario Kart Map Competition and Playtesting event. Here's what the groups had to say about the success of the event.
This collaboration between Mario Kart Society, Staffs Computing Society, and Game Development Society focused on giving final-year students hands-on experience in game design, development, and testing. Students took part in playtesting, where they tested each other’s work and provided feedback, supporting both their projects and assignment requirements. This event filled up an entire room!

The collaboration also included a Mario Kart map design competition. Students designed and built their own tracks, exploring hazards, enemies, theming, track flow, and basic programming for the playable versions on MKPC Maker. Many produced high-quality maps inspired by themes such as F1-style circuits, abandoned Eastern European castles, dream worlds, Halloween environments, and outer-planet journeys, with each team receiving feedback and evaluation. Overall, the project strengthened students’ creativity, design thinking, presentation, and documentation skills, while encouraging collaboration and industry-relevant practice. We can't wait to see what you all made go on your portfolios! Many students got over 10 playtesters for each of their projects, with many more agreeing to continue testing online over several dates, just in time for deadlines.
If your society has done something you are proud of, let us know by filling out this form! And remember to send us photos of your events to help us showcase your hard work!
