University life can be exciting, but it can also feel stressful with deadlines and exams. It's important to find ways to relax. But don’t worry, we're highlighting some effective and easy-to-implement stress relief ideas for you to try. Discover how these simple steps can make a real difference in your well-being.

1. Step Outside on a Sunny Day and Enjoy a Canal Walk:

Instead of staying inside all day, try stepping out when it's sunny. We're lucky in Stoke-on-Trent to have the Trent & Mersey Canal and the Caldon Canal. Taking a walk along the canal on a sunny day can really help clear your head. The sunlight can boost your mood, and being near the water can be calming. It's a great way to take a break from studying and feel refreshed before getting back to your work.

2. Self-Care: Be Kind to Yourself:

Self-care means looking after yourself, both your body and your mind. When you're busy with university, it's easy to forget about yourself. But taking time for self-care can actually help you feel less stressed and more able to cope. This could be anything that makes you feel good, like taking a relaxing bath, eating your favourite food, watching a movie, or just getting enough sleep. Remember, looking after yourself is important for your overall well-being.

3. Read a Book: Escape for a While:

Reading a book can be a great way to take your mind off things. When you're stressed about assignments, reading can offer a break from all the academic pressure. Getting lost in a story or learning something new from a book can be a relaxing way to spend some time. It's different from looking at screens and can help you feel more calm and focused afterwards.

4. Turn Up Your Fav Song and Sing Along:

Listening to music you love can instantly make you feel better: We even have regular Karaoke every Tuesday in Ember Lounge! Come join us and sing your heart out, or just hang out and socialise. It can really help you relieve stress. The next karaoke night is on 29th April. Singing along to your favourite songs releases happy chemicals in your brain and is a fun way to let go of tension. You don't need to be a great singer – just enjoy the music!

5. Start a Journal: Write Down Your Thoughts:

Keeping a journal means writing down your thoughts and feelings: University can bring a lot of different emotions. Writing them down can help you understand how you're feeling and make sense of things. It's a private way to deal with stress, track your mood, and feel more in control. You can write about anything – your day, your worries, or things you're grateful for.

6. Call a Friend or Loved One: Connect with Others:

Talking to people you care about can make a big difference when you're feeling stressed. It's important to stay connected with friends and family while you're at university. Sharing your worries with someone you trust can make you feel less alone and more supported. Sometimes, just hearing a friendly voice can help you feel calmer and more positive. Don't hesitate to reach out to the people who make you feel good.

Remember, taking care of your mental health is just as important as your studies. Try these simple tips to help manage stress and enjoy your time at university.
