Happy New Year Everyone!
We hope you've enjoyed the winter break, and had the chance to rest up and settle into the new term. It's time for another Student Group of the Month celebration, where we showcase the hard work our groups have done over the last month. December's theme was collaboration, and with so many groups working together to host amazing activities and events for students, it's been challenging narrowing down our list to pick a winner for the Student Group of the Month award.
But, our top picks this month were Valorant Society, Staffs Esports Society, Fight Club, League of Legends Society and all of the students who supported the Riot Play Club Event.
These groups supported the Esports department to run an all-day variety of games across the Beacon Building, including Valorant, League, TFT and 2XKO. The groups also supported the running of a livestream from the Beacon Arena and even ran small mini games during breaks. This was a huge event, where the groups spent weeks working with staff to pull together the event that turned out to be a huge success for the students attending.
So to all of the societies, students and staff who worked on this event, a massive congratulations for making the event a fun and enjoyable experience for students.
And it wouldn't be a SGOTM article from us without including some of our special mentions, who have also gone above and beyond by bringing collabration events to life.
FACS
Our Forensics and Crime Science Society have worked with so many student groups over the last month, including Horror Society, Computing Society, Amateur Dramatics Society and the Folklore Soicety, to bring fun themed events, costume parties and a safe space for students to relax and make friends in a fun and supportive environment.
Sonic Society
This group seem to have hosted a collaborative event almost every week in December, hosting movie nights with Computing Society, tournaments with Mario Kart Soicety, and events with the Staf-FUR-dshire Society and Fight Club. The events they have hosted throughout December have been nothing short of amazing to hear about, and the students who have attended have had overwhelmingly positive things to say.
Again, a huge congratulations to our Student Group of the Month winners, and our special mentions. If you think your group has done something deserving of our monthly award, please let us know at studentengagement@staffs.ac.uk, and remember to send us photos of your events so that we can showcase them!
