This month, our groups have been working hard together to offer incredible events and activities for students across our campuses. And we’re really pleased to share that once again, it’s been really difficult to decide on a winner for October’s Student Gorup of The Month. With so many groups working towards this month’s theme of collaboration, we’ve had a hard time deliberating and picking just one winner.

This month, RAMS went above and beyond working with student groups to bring the Halloween spirit to students across campus. The hosted their annual Monsters Ball in collaboration with The Coven, Folklore Society, Myth Society and the LGBTQ+ Society. The event is always popular among students with over 200 attendees across the night. They also hosted a collaboration with the Mario Kart Society to Host Metal Mario, where they hosted a Mario Kart tournament for charity, with all proceeds going to the Sophie Lancaster Foundation. The groups raised over £50 for the charity, with the students involved having a great time.

Huge congratulations to RAMS for winning this month’s award. The hard work they have put into collaborations have been amazing to see, and we can’t wait to see what you have in store over this year.

Special Mentions

Mario Kart Society

Alongside hosting a charity tournament in collaboration with RAMS, the groups have also worked hard to make their society as inclusive as possible, offering special memberships for students in London and Stafford, helping to overcome another barrier to engagement through allowing students on our other campuses to get involved and take part in their society, experiencing the same enjoyment as students on our Stoke Campus.

Mario Kart have also been working hard with some of our gaming and esports societies to bring the first GG event of this academic year to life.

GG Collaborative

Speaking of our gaming and esports societies, we’d also like to mention the GG collaborative, for their hard work and dedication to bringing a fun, vibrant and welcoming event to students with a love for games. The event includes spaces for gaming societies to showcase their interest and allow students to try their hand at a wide range of games and activities. They offer themed drinks and food along with quizzes, tournaments and competitions, so there’s always something for everyone, regardless of what interests you.

The Hive

Running with this month’s theme of collaboration, the Hive has also made our list for special mentions this month. The groups include The Coven, Folklore Society, Myth Society and the LGBTQ+ Society, all of which work tirelessly to bring new and exciting events to students across a wide range of interests. From supporting the Monsters Ball, to hosting Tavern and countless fundraising events, the groups always have a pool of fresh ideas.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Society, in collaboration with Cue Sports

Both groups worked hard to bring a fun tournament to members, raising funds for the Mental Health charity Shout. Across their event, the groups raised almost £100 for the charity, as well as giving students a fun and exciting event to take part in, alongside the groups raising awareness for mental health, and the importance of taking care of yourself, and offering support to those who may need it.

A huge congratulations again to RAMS, and all of our special mentions who made our list this month. Remember, if your group have done something amazing this month, let us know. We’d love to hear of all of the positive stories you have to share (and if you have any photos, we’d love to see these as well!). You can submit a Proud to Shout About It form, telling us what your group have been up to, and it helps us showcase all of the things that make your groups awesome!
