Welcome back, everyone! It's been a busy start to the year, and already we've heard so much about the amazing work our dedicated student group committees have been doing to bring positivity and vibrancy to our campuses. I can't believe we're already in October, which means it's time to reveal the first Student Group of the Month for this academic year! As always, our groups don't make it easy for the Student Engagement Team and our Elected Officers to choose one group out of so many amazing clubs and societies. And we wouldn't have it any other way!
But before we announce last month's winner, we wanted to say how proud we are of all of our groups, whether they have been established for years or if they are just joining us this academic year, they have all worked so hard to bring fun, friendly and welcoming spaces for students to relax, learn, and try something new.
The winner for September is...
Christian Union Society
Our amazing Christian Union team embraced the rain and wind to spread some joy by handing out free sweets and treats to everyone leaving the LRV venue! From midnight to 3am, the team set up outside LRV to offer students cups of water, snacks, and some fun chit-chat. The response from students was absolutely wonderful—they really appreciated the group taking the time to chat with them! It was a delightful experience for everyone involved, with lots of laughter and friendly conversations as students left the venue.
The Christian Union team is excited to keep this fun tradition going on future LRV club nights, so if you spot them around, don’t hesitate to stop by and say hello!
Huge congratulations to Christian Union for winning the September Student Group of the Month. We can’t wait to see what you have planned for the rest of this year!

And on the topic of traditions, it wouldn’t be right to post this article without putting the spotlight on some groups who have also done incredible work so far, and who have made it difficult choosing this month’s winner. So here are our Special mentions:
Computing Society
Computing Society have supported so many students in getting the help they need to succeed in tech through: LinkedIn workshops, competitions, industry speakers and direct recruiter links to help students get ahead in their careers and learn more about the industry. On top of all this, the Computing Society created digital Fresher's packs full of useful career-boosting links and resources, and welcome packs for new students to hand out at the welcome fair, full of handy (but often overlooked in the chaos of starting uni) items and comforting treats to help our new students settle into their new journey just a little easier.

Kickboxing
One of our newer societies, but one who have already made an impression on staff and students with their endless amounts of energy and passion for the group they run. The committee have been keen to introduce kickboxing to as many students as possible, creating a warm, friendly atmosphere for students of any skill level. Not only have Kickboxing started the year with huge plans to build connections and positive relationships with similar groups up and down the country, but they have also created a campus-wide Discord for student group committees to work together, have a laugh and bounce ideas off each other.

If your group has done some amazing work this year, and you think you should be in the running for winning next month’s Student Group of the Month award, let us know by emailing studentengagement@staffs.ac.uk. We want to shout about your achievements with you, so the more we know, the more we can celebrate your wins!
