This month, our theme for Student Group of the month was fundraising. With so many campaigns to choose from, our groups have blown us away with their readiness to take action and raise awareness and money for the charities that meant the most to them. Whislt we have had so many groups hosting charity events, we couldn’t list all of them on this article, but we have picked our top groups who have shown passion and dedication to their charity events. But even narrowing down our list of societies, we still struggles to pick just one winner.

We’re so excited to announce that this month’s Student Groups of the Month are…

Cheerleading Club and Computing Society!

This month, our Cheerleading Club and Computing Society hosted several events in aid of Movember, a charity supporting men’s mental health. Our Cheerleading Club hosted a charity raffle, along with setting up a Just Giving page, raising over £175 across the event. Our Computing Society hosted a charity event every week throughout November, including a “Guess the amount in the jar” style event, but with a twist. Students could donate to guess the number of marbles in the jar at the end of the event. Once they had made their guess, they could choose to take a marble from the jar to lower the overall count. This event was incredibly successful, with the group raising £315 for Movember.

Well done to both groups for achieving this month’s Student Group of the Month!

But it wouldn’t our scheduled article without mentioning some other societies that have gone above and beyond this month to raise money for their charities. Here are some of our top picks.

Islamic Society

Every year, our Islamic Society host a charity week to raise money for Islamic Relief, a charity aiming to provide emergency aid, promote sustainable development and advocate for policy change in over 40 countries. This year, the group hosted a bake sale that raised over £100 in cash donations.

LGBTQ+ Society

Our LGBTQ+ Society hosted a raffle in Ember Lounge last week, along with hosting a ribbon sale and artist fair to support World AIDS Day, helping to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS. World AIDS Day honours those who has died from AIDS-related illnesses, and shows solidarity with people living with HIV.

Again, we want to celebrate all of the groups who have made our list this month, and congratulate both our Cheerleading Society and Computing Society for being this month’s Student Groups of the Month.

And remember, if your group has done something that you think is deserving of next month’s award, let us know! We want to hear all about what your groups have been doing so that we can showcase and celebrate your hard work with you.
