Varsity 2026 is not far away and our sports teams at Staffs are training hard, ready to take on the mental and physical challenge of the annual Staffs Vs Keele Varsity.

We’ll be cheering from the sidelines and wishing all Staffs teams the best of luck.

In the meantime, we’re shining our Student Group Spotlight on some of those amazing teams who’ll be competing, so you can cheer along too, or maybe even get involved with some of the clubs yourself!

About the group:

Our club is a welcoming, energetic and inclusive community where students come together to train, compete and support one another. Whether someone is completely new to the sport or has years of experience, we provide a space where everyone can improve, build confidence and feel part of something bigger than themselves. We run 2 - 3 weekly training sessions focused on developing skills, fitness and teamwork, alongside friendly matches and competitive fixtures throughout the year.

But we’re more than just training - we’re a social, supportive network. From team socials and charity events to away days and varsity fixtures, our club creates friendships that last far beyond university.

Students should get involved because we offer:

• A supportive environment for all ability levels

• Opportunities to compete and represent the university

• A strong sense of belonging and team spirit

• Unforgettable events, trips and socials

• A chance to challenge yourself and grow in confidence Joining our club isn’t just about playing — it’s about finding your people.

Special Achievements to include:

This year has been particularly exciting for us, and we are currently building towards one of the biggest events in our calendar — Varsity against Keele University this March. Varsity is always a standout moment in the university sporting calendar, bringing together players, supporters and the wider student community. We’ve been training hard and preparing as a team, and it represents a huge opportunity for our members to compete at a high level, represent the university with pride, and be part of an electric matchday atmosphere.

Alongside preparing for Varsity, we have:

• Achieved strong results in competitive fixtures this season

• Continued to grow our membership numbers

• Hosted large, well-attended social events

• Strengthened our development pathway for new players Varsity reflects how far we’ve come not just in terms of performance, but in our teamwork, commitment and club spirit. We’re incredibly excited to showcase that in March.

Quotes from Members:

“Joining this club was the best decision I made at university. I came in knowing little, and now I have friends for life. It’s given me confidence both on and off the court.” - Sarah Hartley
