With Varsity just around the corner, we’re shining our Student Group Spotlight on some of our awesome teams.
Staffs Versus Keele Varsity
Varsity 2026 is not far away and our sports teams at Staffs are training hard, ready to take on the mental and physical challenge of the annual Staffs Vs Keele Varsity.
We’ll be cheering from the sidelines and wishing all Staffs teams the best of luck.
In the meantime, we’re shining our Student Group Spotlight on some of those amazing teams who’ll be competing, so you can cheer along too, or maybe even get involved with some of the clubs yourself!
Go Staffs!!
Good luck to: SUMC
Mountaineering Club

About the group:
SUMC is competing against Keele at this year's varsity!
With 14 climbs to complete across 2 climbing disciplines (bouldering and top-rope), we can't wait to give it our all!!
The club meets twice a week to climb, once at Kilnworx Climbing Centre and once in the Sir Stanley Matthews Sports Centre. Outside of climbing, we also love to meet for socials and activities and have a few upcoming hikes in the works.
This year, SUMC has competed in MUCC (Midlands University Climbing Competition), achieving some fantastic scores and some members have participated in local competitions at Awesome Walls too. We are also looking forward to our trip to Wales to climb outdoors in April!
How to get involved
Ev
eryone gets 2 free sessions with our club, one on a Friday in the sports hall (5:00-7:00), and one on a Monday at Kilnworx (meet at the sports hall at 5:30. Climb 6:00-8:00).
We highly encourage anyone to give it a go, you never know how much you might enjoy it! Our members are absolutely lovely too and are very supportive, especially with those who are nervous or wary of heights. There is no better time or place to give climbing a try!
We are looking forward to celebrating this years Varsity competition, and hope that you are too! Why don't you join us at our Varsity Gobble night?

Win or lose, the PARTY is here in LRV to celebrate the end of this year's VARSITY competition.
