Proud to Shout About is a platform for students to celebrate their successes in being part of the union. Whether it’s running societies or simply moments that make you proud, this is the space to share them. It’s all about highlighting the effort, dedication, and passion that students put into their university life and giving them the recognition they deserve.

This week, the Pokemon Society hosted a session that allowed thier members to get creative and design their own Pokemon.

"We have just concluded an event themed after parodying Shark Tank — where members, in groups, design their own Pokémon and present them to the rest of the Society. Members had to consider whether these hypothetical Pokémon were balanced and could theoretically exist in the games, whether they had a strong concept that would make someone want to catch them, and whether the group did a good job of presenting their design to the rest of the members. Additionally, we are planning a trip to Birmingham Regionals at the end of this month, with almost half of our society’s members attending the event. Birmingham Regionals is one of the largest Pokémon-related events that take place in the UK, and many of our members are competing in the trading card game and video game tournaments. We wish them luck!"

Some of their members also wanted to share their highlights from this activity:

"“This society has allowed me to explore areas of pokemon that i had never done so before by meeting incredible people and forming amazing friendships from it. Pokemon Society has changed me into a better person thanks to the wonderful people who are a part of it.”

“It’s been a great place hang out, I have made some amazing friends because of it, it gives me something to always look forward to each week, and it’s the reason I ended up not dropping out when I felt miserable when I first started uni last year.”

“im not smart enough to make a good enough quote but i really like how the society feels more "homely" (i guess? i cannot think of a better word) than others. it feels like a second family and everyone's been really helpful to me in some way.”

“I like soc because i get to go to Stoke On Trent every week and see people i like :)” “As a new student who's just come out of perhaps the most unproductive and not-super-social gap year of all time, this society has been a super nice and welcoming place for me to re-learn my social skills and interact with people outside of my flat”

“this Society is like a Family away from my own....but having friends here in person and some things that have happened are memories i will never forget. :3”
