2020/2021 SEASON NEWS

This year Staffordshire Stingrays basketball team has undergone a massive reconstruction with a whole new image to the team. We are currently pushing towards entering into BUCS again in the future, which will mean competing against other local universities. This season (20/21), we will focusing on building our squad from the roots and increasing our sport to new and current students wanting to try basketball this year. The way we engage with our students has of course changed due to the restrictions from the pandemic however we have made sure to give you the best experience possible with the set backs so far this year. Training throughout the year will be free compared to the mens (BUCS) side with all our sessions open to all abilities to come try, our goal is to expand training sessions this year and further imorove our overall goal of a BUCS league team very soon.

Give it a go sessions

Our give it a go sessions will look a bit different this year with all sessions being booked online following the "Whats On" page of the union site, through this scroll down to the search bar and type in basketball to get all our sessions. Make sure to book ahead in good time to sercue a place on one of these sessions, these unfortunately will now be capped at 12 students per session following Basketball England guidance with further changes to possibly come. Following the guidance on the website you will be able to book a slot, make sure to check out or social media accounts to read the Covid-19 measures in place to ensure a smooth and safe session.

  Covid-19 safety measures

Due to Covid-19 still being a threat, our university has implemented changes to how training will be delivered, to ensure all students are safe during their involvement in any extra activities alongside their studies. Staffs Stingrays has appointed a Covid Officer (Sarah Hartley - Women's Team Captain) who will be at every training session to check the temperatures of the players, and also check that the right players are turning up, i.e. those that turn up match the track and trace system that will be in place to book your training session spots. Furthermore, there are some new rules that will be in place to maximise safety of players, and these can be found on our social media so please go have a read. Extra information will be provided by staff and our committee team. Staffs Stingrays are following every single update of Basketball England to make sure we are following the right steps to deliver great training for everybody.
