Staffordshire Spartans

Ultimate is a fast-moving team sport enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of players around the world. Although frequently compared to sports like soccer or American Football, Ultimate has some unique features that sets it apart. There are no referees. And it’s played with a flying disc.

What is it?

Firstly see our highights from last season:

Frisbee can be played indoors and outdoors. Indoor Frisbee is played with 5 players per team in a standard sports hall, with an endzone at each end, whereas outdoor frisbee is played on a larger pitch with 7 players. The objective of the game is to score by catching a pass in the opponent's end zone. When in possession of the disc, the player must stop running but can pivot and pass to any other player. The player with the disc has 8 seconds possesion indoors, and 10 seconds possession outdoors before they HAVE to make a throw.

Who are we?

Staffordshire Spartans aim to qualify for nationals and win varsity! We love to play competetively on the pitch and then party hard off it and we have a range of players from GB level to complete beginners! In the coming year we will enter several local tournaments and have fixtures against the likes of Keele University, Warwick University, Loughborough University and many more! We aim to continue development of our Womens team the Swifts by introducing sepatrate womens trainings.

Come and try it out!

This year is going to be the biggest year for Ultimate in the history of the game. The sport has recently been recognised by the International Olympic Commitee and hopefully when all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed, Ultimate Frisbee will be part of the 2024 Olympics.

                                      - A bit about me:

I started playing Ultimate after a few of my mates asked if I wanted to go to a Give It A Go Session and a year later we’re all still taking part in one of the fastest growing sports in the UK and some taking leadership roles in the club. Ultimate has become a large part of my life, with going to training & tournaments, also becoming part of a massive team that is developing all the time, not only as part of the Staffordshire Spartan team, but with a wider community of teams and players that you don’t find in any other sport. This year with the Spartans we hope to continue our good league form and taking our skills to regional tournaments, and I believe we can do that because of the skill and experiance that we have in our coaches this season!

                                       - A bit about me: I only started playing Frisbee at university and within a year i was playing for GB, Frisbee has become a massive part of my life, it's so fun to play and I've made friends for life out of team members. You can play this sport no matter your shape and size which is what appealed to me as i'm quite short. I hope i can make the trainings as fun and intresting as possible in order to ignite your passion for frisbee!

                                     - A bit about me:

I started playing Frisbee with Staffs Spartans 2 years ago and fell in love with the sport. During that time I've met tons of incredible people, the Frisbee community is super friendly. Over the summer I missed playing for Staffs so I started playing at club level to develop further and continue playing, I’ve trained with GB coaches and hope to bring everything I’ve learned with plenty of enthusiasm to training!
