strapped for cash... and you can feel safer around campus, which is always nice :)
Hello! My name is Jade Fovargue.
This is my fourth year here at Staffs and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting involved in attending student conferences, student groups and being a trustee ensuring the union uses it's resources responsibly and with student needs and wants at the heart.
Because of this, I am thrilled to say that I am running for the position of Full-Time Officer in this year's Leadership Race!

Why am I running?
After spending a few years, here at Staffordshire University, I have decided to take this step as I have seen both brilliant and not so brilliant sides of Staffs and I would like to make a difference. I have lots of ideas which should help you, the students at Staffs.

Mental Health
I know this is going to be on everyones manifesto but this is extremely important not just whilst you're at Uni but life afterwards aswell.
Proud To Be You
I believe it is important to be proud of yourself as an individual to then be Proud to be Staffs. To encourage this I plan to promote self-care, self-help and confidence to make the campus a brighter place as a whole. This is a mental health campaign which aims to take the stigma away from mental health and proves anyone is able to improve their self-image and optimism.
With this policy discussions and questions will be asked to provoke thoughts on self-discovery. Self-care activities will pop up on our campuses, such as random acts of kindness inspiration cards, throwing darts at paint balloons, reflective groups among other activities.
I aim to create an environment within the university in which all students from all walks of life feel included and proud, regardless of any prerequisites. I will work to make this campaign a personal journey for anyone who wishes to take part. To which by the end of it I hope you all can say "I'm proud to be me!"
I would also like to work with the Charity Mind and their Pause programme in order to make this project as effective as possible.
HELP I can't afford my prescriptions
To assist students who are struggling with their finances I would work to dedicate some union events into raising awareness of funding which is available to students.
Student Safety
Sexual Health
It's no secret that lots of University students enjoy sex, and although I would like to sit here and believe we all use the correct protection and practice safe sex... sometimes mistakes happen and with the business which comes along with student life. We don't always have the time to sit in Cobridge, to help with this I believe their should be more opportunities to get tested.
I would like to
- Have a HIV testing van on campus more regularly
- STI testing swabs available
- Work with Coalport doctors and work towards regular opportunities to be tested on campus
Of course it's also best for peace of mind and healthy to be 100% sure of your status.
Safety on and around Campus
Safety in the area you are living in when you first move away from home is a basic need. To ensure safety for all students I plan to communicate with Campus Control and ResLife to explore options to improve the job which they are already working hard on.
Students Saving Students
Too much term left at the end of your loan?!
Don't worry! I've got you covered. I plan to work towards creating opportunities for students to raise funds on campus with little planning ahead needed on your part!
SEL-RV
One of the first projects to help this would be to work with the venues to host SEL-RV. To take part in these Sales would cost a small deposit to hold a stall to sell some items you no longer want or need. You may even be able to decide and sell on the same day!
To promote this I aim to have the debut Student Sale to transfer a percentage of the deposit put back onto student cards so you may then spend in student shops and venues.
Cross Course Collaboration
Are you a creative student? Would you benefit from working with cross-course collaboration?
After listening to students and believing this would be useful for myself and coursemates, I have spent the past year working on a platform which would make your projects much more efficient and turn this university into a creative hub.
The sign-up process would be simple;
- Sign up via your school's academic society
- List your past projects and skills
- Write in your availability or import calendar (Whichever would be best for you!)
- Wait
To find others to collaborate with all you need to do is find which role you need filling on a drop-down menu and you're all set to start networking!
If you are a student which need's participants for experiments or surveys I will work to also make this possible on this platform!
Value For Money
When you decide to come to Uni you already know you're going to come out with a lot of debt. In order to make sure you get the most bang for your buck in intend to do the following.
- Work with the University to get a 24hr Campus so you can work where and when you need to.
- Additional qulifications relevant to your course. Similar to JRQ's
- Increase on campus knowledge of the free support and help already available at the university
I have more options!?
If elected, I will do my absolute best to ensure all students are effectively communicated to with all of the opportunities available to them and any changes be made to these opportunities. These will be communicated clearly to academic reps which will then be passed down to the rest of each courses cohort.
