Putting you in control:
I want to put YOU in control, I will empower every student to have a say in the way that the University and Union is run. I want students at the heart of decision making, this is especially true regarding who the Union and University do business with. In the past ‘ivory tower’ decision making has been to the detriment of students: launderette facilities, ATM facilities, and many more have directly impacted students, but students had no say until it was too late. I want a fundamental change in paradigm so that students are empowered to have a say!
Inclusion
I want to increase the amount of involvement all students at Staffordshire University have in everything run by the Union. Ensuring all campuses are catered for by the Union, from introducing increased entertainment and events at satellite campuses, to increasing the use of online platforms to increase the involvement all students have. I will create a Student Group Events Fund for Student Groups where they can host events open to all students, funding that would be up for grabs to student groups to host an inclusive event, not only would this empower student groups in their recruitment but would diversify the Union’s entertainment offering.
Wellbeing
I want the Union and University to always ask, “how does this impact student wellbeing?” whenever a decision is made. I want to know where consideration lies in all decision making. I will push for enacting a ‘minimum wellbeing standard’ for decision to be checked against, before it's approved. I want to increase funding and staffing provided by the university and union for mental health, I will push recruitment of more support staff and increased length and availability of counselling sessions.
