Count On Carter

Hi! I’m Carter and I’m here to listen to YOUR voice. I’m a second-year non-binary film student and I’m running to be your Full Time Officer! You may have seen me as a Team Leader in Squeezebox or serving you at LRV, or even as part of the action team when halls flooded back in October. Outside of my lectures I’m an active member of the LGBT+ network as well as being in the creative writing and theme park societies, and a cheerleader!

As one of your officers I will be there to listen to what you think should change within the uni and union, and to put these changes into effect! While working on a range of suggestions my four main impacts will be SISL:

Support:

Improve the current mental health support, making it easier to access and adding student-led groups while training more lecturers and society committee with it, and adding herbal remedies to the shops (such as sleep balms). Raising awareness of mental health and removing the stigma is my main priority.

Inclusion:

Combat the isolation students can face by having more engaging non-alcohol events, increasing collaboration between more courses, and having society committees across ALL campuses, so that every student enjoys university!

Sustainability:

More sustainable actions behind the scenes of our venues with recycling and sustainable packagings, and replacing single-use items such as face wipes, plus collecting rainwater to use when flushing toilets.

LGBT+:

Increase training and awareness of gender and sexualities across staffs, making it easier for trans students to change names on systems!

The food bank, period poverty, and student staff are more areas I want to improve on so search for my social media for more detailed points on how I’m here for you.

Thank you!
