Inclusivity is for Everyone

About Me

Hello! I am an MSc student on my fourth year at Staffs. You might recognise me from working behind the bar at LRV and Verve, and when I’m not at work I conduct research into how inclusive curriculums impact student wellbeing. Improving inclusivity to benefit others is something I am incredibly passionate about, and that’s what I am bringing to the table as a candidate.

I’ve been on the committee for the Women’s Network for two years now and attended the 2020 NUS Liberation conference as the women’s representative from Staffs, so I am familiar with representing my fellow students. I also have experience teaching, which has given me leadership and management skills that will be beneficial for stepping into the role of Student Officer.

My Platform

From interviewing students at Staffs, my research has shown that many haven’t had any sex or sexual health education (or if they have it was not inclusive). Learning from friends and the internet is not the most reliable source which is why I want to provide accessible and inclusive sex education and sexual health on campus.

Previous work by the LGBT+ Network and Officers has given us pronoun badges for students and staff members. I want to continue the work that has been done to make lectures more inclusive, and lecturers more approachable for transgender and nonbinary students. Pushing for more training for staff on the importance of using pronouns, as this will have a significant impact on the mental wellbeing of students and is an easy step to make lectures a safer and more inclusive space for all.

This is what I’m offering for the position of Student Officer.
