Making Staffs Work For Students

It's no secret that there's a lack of identity here at Staffs, our campus is quiet, our events are sparse, and our sports and clubs are struggling to survive. I feel that there's hope to improve our campus with the resources we have but I need your vote for change.

This year we've seen our first varsity win since 2009, yet our crowds have been thinner than ever. There's been a disconnect between the student population and the sports clubs which must be reversed. We should support our teams by advertising upcoming games and wins on our screens, incentivise spectators through the "magic stamp" app, and encourage students to join clubs throughout the year.

Over the 4 years I've been at Staffs, I've seen a change, few people are coming to this uni who enjoy gobble and fewer enjoy clubs at all, yet little has changed. Keele SU sees big names such as Circa Waves and Two Door Cinema Club, DJs performing themed nights, tribute bands, themed drinks weeks, and special acts such as Dick and Dom. We have great venues at Staffs and if events are run properly, such as karaoke in Ember Lounge, they work brilliantly. We should host a wider variety of events in our venues, for both students and the community, to bring life back to our campus and help fund our union.

Our campus has room to improve too, we have made efforts to be more sustainable yet there's more we can do. We light empty rooms, we print endless sheets of paper that are wasted, and we throw away so much that can be recycled. We should incentivise students to recycle more and take part in campus and community litter picks. We will make this uni greener and livelier through realistic and achievable goals.

We proudly represent the academic interests of all Students at Staffordshire University. Providing advice, student groups and fantastic experiences that make us all very Proud to be Staffs.
