Candidate for the position of Folklore Society - Communications Officer

Holly Cadman

I’m Holly Cadman (yes they really did name a building after me) and I’m currently a second year student doing Games PR & Community Management.

As someone who studies community management, I have a keen insight into what it means to be a part of a community and how best to ensure the flourishing of a community. In addition to that, I have years of experience working in communication roles for both small and large organisations. Some of my comms work has been featured on BBC News and ITV News and has made it to the trending pages of Twitter.

As a communications officer, I would implement a transparent communication system to ensure all members are informed of essential information, such as upcoming events and community guidelines. This level of transparency would help to ensure that everyone is on the same page and help to create an inclusive space for everyone.

In addition to that, communication will be consistent to ensure information is up to date to prevent scenarios that could result in people missing out and not being included. This will be done by effectively utilising social platforms such as Discord and Instagram. I will be also exploring new and creative ways to communicate with society members.

Since communication is a two way thing, I will actively encourage feedback and engagement from society members to make sure their voices are heard. I will explore a variety of options to see how best effectively this can be implemented and will use feedback given to improve communication strategies and make sure the needs of society’s members are being met.

To help build a stronger sense of community within the society, I will create a space that encourages members to share their own content and create opportunities for collaborative projects. Not only that, but I will be seeking collaborative opportunities with other societies as I believe that it will create a stronger sense of community for the societies involved, something I feel is valuable in university life.

Having been an active member of the Folklore Society this year, I would love to see it continue to thrive as I have thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the society and want to use my skills to help it continue succeeding.

Thank you. ??
