Freak on the peaks, sensible in the spreadsheets.
Hi, I’m Meg, currently a Policing & Criminal Investigation student in my placement year. Despite my relatively short time as a member of SUSC, my enthusiasm for snowboarding and strong organisational skills have driven me to seek out the responsibilities of the role of SUSC Finance Officer.
Why should you elect me?
-
I have financial and legal experience, including budget management for the police.
-
I am highly organised, excellent at communication, and meticulous in my work.
-
I am already unofficially acting as Finance Officer and this has resulted in quantifiable financial benefit for SUSC members.
How have I already committed to this role?
Our winter ski trip recently faced a setback when two participants withdrew after paying deposits. This situation posed a dilemma: either the deposits would have to be retained, or remaining participants would need to cover the additional expense. Instead, I approached and collaborated with Committee to form an alternative plan. I researched multiple vendors, minimising costs and allowed full deposits to be returned. Committee approved a small subsidy, and remaining participants were spared extra expenses. Attending meetings with Student Engagement to communicate this financial plan, I naturally fell into the role of Finance Officer.
Future aims
-
To replenish the fund, I intend to implement a strong fundraising plan that can serve as a template for future SUSC committees. This will create opportunities for future trips, for this year and years to come.
-
To collaborate with Student Engagement in the financial and logistical planning of upcoming trips and events. I am committed to going above and beyond to ensure that SUSC members receive the best value for their investment.
-
To introduce additional socials, ensuring every member feels a sense of belonging and connection within the society - especially our newcomers!
