Save our Green Space
With wildfires, climate change and the declining population of endangered species like the water vole and bees, and losses of 97% of wildflower meadows since the 1930s, let’s keep our campus wild.
My Aims:
Holding the university accountable to for current and future green space- not allowing it to end up in the same pitfall as the reserve.
Creating opportunities for green space care, society collaborations such as community gardening, wellness walks, wildlife watching, litter picks, and more - promoting wellness, physical/mental health, and nature conservation.
Working with organisations -e.g. the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and the Trent Rivers Trust to ensure conservation efforts for the reserve are done right.
Raising awareness of student rights
As a student rep, I’ve noticed that issues can go buried for so long, they are assumed to be normal. I aim to raise awareness of student rights, pushing for more transparency on what the university staff can/cannot do , to ensure we can spot and sort issues as they arise.
This goes hand in hand with aims to improve avenues of communication between students, course reps, subject reps, university and union staff. E.g. a standard method of quick, easy and approachable communication for reps and relevant staff, Adding and ensuring consistent ways to promote awareness of course reps to students, like pushing for the inclusion of rep information in welcome lectures – which should be happening anyway, but it often not upheld.
Accessability of campus facilities
Currently, there is insufficient accessibility to many student facilities and resources.
My Aims:
Improved signage and awareness of access routes.
Holding the University accountable to Equality Act standards to make reasonable adjustments, and where previous adjustments are found insufficient, to fix them.
Higher standards on lecture recording and teaching material availability for those unable to attend.
