Don't know what you can do with your degree?

Your connections and degree can take you anywhere, but if you want a few places to start, then take a look at the quizzes and articles below to help get you thinking.

Where to look:

There are loads of places to start your job search out there, but here's also loads of opportunities right here at Staffordshire University and the Students' Union

  • Students' Union - we recruit students every year to work in a range of roles, find out more at www.staffsunion.com/getinvolved/jobs
  • MyCareer - Staffordshire University's career portal.  Search for part time, casual and graduate jobs and placements.  Go to www.staffs.ac.uk/careers and select the MyCareer link.
  • Unitemps - on campus recruitment agency that recruits students to work:  at the University and locally in part-time/temporary work and graduate internships and graduate jobs www.unitemps.com - search for opportunities by the Staffordshire branch.
  • Call in to the Career Studio in the Student Hub, Science Centre, Leek Road and speak to one of our fabulous student Career Coaches.

Top tips for finding jobs and opportunities:

  1. Ask. You can talk to academics and your peers.  Ask what other students have done, and who for.
  2. Network. Tell your family and friends and ask them to tell their  family, friends and colleagues what you are looking for.
  3. Search. Try job websites, company websites, professional organisation websites, social media - look at company Twitter feeds, LinkedIn and Facebook pages. Read all about how 'Social Media can be a powerful recruitment tool'
  4. Speculate - contact employers directly, click here to find out how to ask employers for work experience or how to write a speculative job application
  5. Make sure you keep copies of job adverts and your applications to help you prepare for interviews.
  6. Sign up to agencies.  Use local directories, like yell.com, to search for agencies in your area.
  7. Attend events and job fairs. ConnectedFutures is a week of career-related fairs that happens annually at Staffordshire University, and look our for national career events
