Our Union Outreach at Blackheath Lane and Shrewsbury

Hi, I’m Tony, the union’s new outreach assistant.

This means that for two days every week I’ll be on campus at Blackheath Lane and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital as the students’ union representative.

You'll be able to spot me with the laptop and massive union banner I have to bring over.

The remaining three days I work from our offices in Stoke, where I started off printing t-shirts over a year ago. So, as well as helping out the marketing team, it puts me in a great position to relay all of the information I pick up from BHL or RSH and put the wheels in motion for an improved student experience for you.

Why?

Primarily, I’m here to act as a first port of call for all of you at our Centres of Excellence. The union is always available by email, online messenger or phone, but that never quite compares to having a member of staff physically there for students to approach and talk to.

If you’ve got an idea for a student-led event (whether it’s social or academic), if you think something about the campus needs changing or even if you’re experiencing personal issues that’re interfering with your work, I’ll know how to help and where to direct you.

At the Centres of Excellence, you’ve also got a devolved budget for improving your student experience (from nights out and events, to better kitchen equipment) so if you’ve got a suggestion of how to use it, come over for a chat and we’ll see what can be done. Keep an eye out for more content explaining exactly what this budget is about, and how you can make use of it!

During this early stage, however, I’d like to get to know the campuses and students a bit better, so you might see me around asking questions too. If you’ve got any advice, as a Faculty of Health student, just let me know. I’d really appreciate it.

See you all soon.

Royal Shrewsbury Hospital: Tuesdays, 9-5. The social space by reception.

Blackheath Lane: Thursdays, 9-5. The social space behind reception.

For the week starting Monday 5th December, I will be on campus at the same place, but RSH on Wednesday and BHL on Friday, to attend the events and councils on that week. The regular times will recommence after Monday 12th December.
