Sometimes it's the support of our friends that help us through the most difficult of periods in our life. Annie, a tireless friend, coach and leader is always there for her team and in being there has contributed to the fantastic Cheerleading Club we have here at Staffordshire University. Thank you Annie, for making us Proud to be Staffs.
Annie Thompson's Story
"Annie is one of the most amazing people I have ever met and the best housemate I could ever ask for. She has been a coach for several years now for the cheer team, was the president last year, finance officer this year and next year and she has put her absolute heart and soul into this team and it's members. Annie goes above and beyond what is asked of her role, she puts hours and hours into putting the routines together, organising events, countless meetings, helping us - her cheerleaders - be the best we can be. She cares so much about each and every one of us, if we have doubts, if there's something wrong, she doesn't just ignore it. She builds us up, she does whatever she can to make sure we're okay, with Annie the kettle is always boiled and our house is always free for anyone that needs a safe place and the reason it's a safe place at our house is because of her. A few months ago I went through a really tough time, I relapsed my depression and it was the worst I'd been in years, and the reason I got through it and got better is Annie. We were still getting to know each other properly at that point yet she was there for me every step of the way, talking to me, making me feel like I wasn't mad and what I was feeling was rational, no matter what time of day it was she was there for me. One time I came home from the library at three in the morning and was crying and she made me a brew, talked through everything with me and stayed with me till I felt like I was okay. This girl is one in a million and I know she doesn't do any of this for recognition, she does it because that's just who she is. She's kind, considerate and genuinely cares for everything no matter who they are and no matter what she's gone through herself. She's done so much for her team and her friends this year and every year despite going through so many hardships herself this past year, Annie deserves to be recognised for this. Annie Thompson is the physical embodiment of Proud to be Staffs and what the union stands for."
