Car parking on College Road

On Saturday 13 June, contractors will be arriving on the College Road site to set up their works base, from which they will operate for the duration of the Campus Transformation Programme.

This will require the closure of the Mellor carpark on College Road, and vehicle access to the rest of the site will no longer be possible from the main entrance.

It is important that all vehicles are removed from the carpark to allow the work to be undertaken safely and to schedule.

Disabled parking provision will remain on the front of the Mellor car park, with additional spaces being made available by arrangement with Estates – please contact stoke-lodge@staffs.ac.uk to book these spaces, and if you would like to discuss any other special requirements.

From Monday 29 June, parking within the Cadman Courtyard will also no longer be an option.

Winton Square car park, pictured on the plan below, can be accessed via the Station Road entrance from 22 June for the duration of the works, however spaces are very limited.

Additional parking on Leek Road is planned as part of the wider programme of works, and we would encourage all staff and students who are able to do so to park on Leek Road or Clarice Cliff, from 13 June.

We appreciate your cooperation.

Campus Transformation updates

The Cadman, Courtyard Café and Pavilion
Work begins next week in the Pavilion Café, Costa Coffee and the Student Social space on College Road. Initial work is also underway in the Thompson Gallery within the Cadman Building.

The Pavilion café is now closed, and from today, the Courtyard Café will no longer be open. Don’t forget, the SqueezeBox and The Ember Lounge will remain open in addition to the University’s other catering outlets.

Temporary hoardings have already been erected in the courtyard area to make sure it is presentable for the upcoming Show and Tell exhibition.
The main hoardings for the Cadman courtyard and the front of Pavilion will be in place from 22 June 2015.

Mellor, Flaxman and the new build
To enable work to begin in these areas, vehicle access to the rest of the College Road site will be restricted when the Mellor carpark closes on 13 June - the service road to Mellor, Dwight and Henrion will be in heavy use by the contractor vehicles throughout the programme, and the rear entrance of the Mellor building and the Flaxman building will also be in constant use. You will see hoardings go up in these areas from 22 June.

From Monday 8 June, you will begin to see some changes to the disabled bay markings in the Mellor carpark, and posts being put in place in preparation for the contractor’s hoardings to go up on Saturday 13 June. This will not interfere with parking on site, and will have minimal impact on the appearance of the site.

New name for the new build
We have had some great suggestions for naming the new build, drawing on the heritage of the University and the local areas of Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford. We would love to hear more of your fantastic ideas, inspired by modern and exciting learning environments and the future of the University.

Send your suggestions now to transformation@staffs.ac.uk with the subject title of ‘New Name for New Build’. These will be shortlisted by the Campus Transformation Board before going out to a student vote.

Good luck and we look forward to seeing how creative you can be!
