Would it be a good idea to support a couple of food pantry's on and around campus? To be used by our students, locations to be discussed.

Food pantry's are owned and managed by the community, in this case the proposed owners would be the students and friends of Staffs Uni. Available 24/7 to anyone who needs them. When this system works, it is claimed they help to reduce food anxiety, think of it as a kind of ongoing Great Donate?

Why: In short, to improve our community.

1:10pm on 28 Sep 16 I think it is a great idea, but the only reservation I have is that it may be misused. I think the location would be key, if it was to be successful. Perhaps a box would need to be positioned in a location where it could be monitored discreetly, to stop misuse, but would this then stop a student from using it, if other people could see them accessing it. Its a difficult one, but may worth a trial. Do we need to make the Union Foodhub more accessible and ensure students know about it.

8:22pm on 27 Sep 16 The problem I see with a food pantry is that it will be misused. Also successfully used ones require a lot of upkeep. They can empty very quickly! I like the idea of a pantry but maybe a smallish room would be a better idea (again somewhere that is accessible 24/7). Filling a room would again be hard work but won't need hourly upkeep. Perhaps just daily? I'm not sure if the laundry building is accessible 24/7 but a side of that would be ideal. Somewhere where people can go to 'do washing' (when really they desperately need food but are too embarrassed to tell anyone!!)
