How to Become a Community Hate Crime Champion and what it involves

Hate crimes are significantly under reported across the nation, Staffordshire Police are reaching out for community hate crime champions to help raise awareness and increase the reporting of crimes to the police by enagaging with the community to affectively prevent and tackle hate crimes. 

Community hate crime champions are important contacts within the community who play a vital role in supporting those who have been affected by hate crimes. The community hate crime champions will work alongside the police and patners to help identify and increase reporting of hate crimes.

As defined by Staffordshire Police, the role of a community hate crime champion includes:

  • Identifying hate crimes which may occur within the community
  • Reporting hate crimes to the police
  • Supporting victims who have experienced hate through signposting them to the right advice and support networks
  • Increase public confidence to report hate crimes

Anyone can become a community hate crime champion. Uniting Staffordshire Against hate (USAH) will provide individuals with training either in person or online to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills needed in in the role.
