A busy year for Cue Sports...
We love sharing the achievements and successes of our student groups; here's a round up of Cue Sports Society activities.
It’s been a busy year for our Cue Sports Society who have been non-stop this academic year. On a sporting level, the Cue Sports Society have organised and participated in tournaments consisting of several Cue Sport’s societies nationally. Not only did the society compete, but they also came away with some precious silverware. The society also had bragging rights over rivals Keele, beating them on aggregate 6-2!
However, the societies greatest achievements have come in the form of fundraising where they have above and beyond expectations. Firstly, over £100 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity which means a lot to the local area, and a welcome boost to their funding. Yet, the society were not finished there. At the beginning of 2022, another £100 was raised for Women’s Aid, a cause which is important to student’s and the wider community.
Finally, arguably their greatest fundraising achievement came in the form of The Big Sleep Out, organised by the Stoke City Community Trust. With only two weeks’ notice, the society braced themselves for a further £100 fundraising target and to represent both Union and University by sleeping on the floor inside the cold Bet365 Stadium to raise awareness of homelessness in the local area. Not only were they able to reach their final goal and achieve their financial target, but they did so with a smile on their faces. We hear that Cue Sport’s fundraising efforts don’t stop there, with more fundraisers expected before the end of the academic year!
Aside from fundraising and competition, Cue Sports have been able to negotiate their own sponsorship deal, which funded the Cue Sports uniform as well as contributing to tournament trophies.
It’s clearly been an entertaining and fun-filled year for the Cue Sports Society and long may it continue, it’s stories like these which showcase what it’s like to be #proudtobestaffs.
….if you've got a story or achievement to share, we'd love to hear about it!
