There is a group of big-hearted volunteers, based in Macclesfield, Cheshire who spend much of their free time making foil blankets.

The blankets are then donated to people who are not fortunate enough to have a place to call home; to those who spend their nights outdoors facing the cold, wind and rain for whom the foil, insulating blankets help to ease this harsh and unthinkable challenge - just a little bit. And every little bit does help, that's why we've been doing our bit too.

In January 2022, your Union shops starting collecting empty crisp packets which our student volunteers then clean and cut ready to be donated and to be made into these fantastic foil blankets for the homeless. Last academic we collected and donated over 1000 crisp packets to the Macclesfield Crisp Blanket volunteers.

This year, we partnered with a local primary school and by combining the donations from the school and from the Students' Union shops, we have already donated 1800 packets since September. That's enough to make another 12 foil blankets.

You can find out more about Macclesfield Crisp Blankets via their Facebook page and please save your empty foil crisp packets and keep donating them at the Students’ Union shops.
