Whilst it can be daunting looking at all the opportunities at your fingertips, it doesn’t have to be that way. Here are a few tips to find the right opportunity for you. You can browse through some of the opportunities we have listed on the Student’s Union Volunteering page, or you can branch out on your own and look at some local opportunities.

Identify the causes you’re passionate about.

Passion can be a powerful driving force that can lead you to make a positive impact on the world. However, it’s important to first identify the causes that you are truly passionate about. This could involve reflecting on personal experiences, values, and beliefs, as well as researching and learning about various issues affecting society. Once a cause has been identified, it’s important to act and get involved in ways that align with one’s skills and interests. This could range from volunteering time and resources to advocating for change.

Think about how much time you have to spare to volunteer.

Whether you have a few hours per week or a couple of hours per month, there is always an opportunity for you to volunteer.

When thinking about whether to volunteer, it’s important to think about how much time you can spare between your studies and your free time. Some organisations will have opportunities that may only need a couple of hours per month. Other opportunities may be more flexible, but all of them will appreciate whatever time you can offer.

Try to find an opportunity that matches the skills you have (or want to develop further)

Finding the right volunteer opportunities can be a challenge, but it’s important to ensure that you skills match the needs of the organisation you’re interested in supporting. By taking time to assess your strengths and interests, you can identify the causes and projects that will be the best fit for you. Whatever your skill set is, there is a volunteer opportunity out there that can benefit from your unique talents and abilities. So, take the time to research and connect with organisations that align with your interests and skills and start making a difference within your community.
