A positive financial outcome for students
The Students' Union is proud to have worked with the University's Student Services team and ResLife staff to agree on a six-week rent reduction for any students who are unable to access their on-campus accommodation due to the current national lockdown restrictions.
We believe this will come as a relief for hundreds of our students.
The details and form to claim this have been communicated directly to the students it affects by email, so we recommend students check their inbox for information. It also includes answers to some of the other questions we raised on your behalfs such as concerns around collecting belongings, testing requirements, and financial support.
How will students who are in on-campus accommodation be supported?
We know that some students will have already returned to the university accommodation for their course and might be feeling that this wasn't the best option for them. We want you to know we are here for you, to listen to your concerns, and to point you in the direction of support.
We are working closely with the ResLife team to ensure students are supported and we continue to press the government nationally, alongside the NUS (National Union of Students) around the impact the covid-19 is having on students.

What is the Union doing for students who live in private accommodation?
As you can imagine, it's a bit more complicated to secure rent reductions for students in private accommodation due to there being so many providers and landlords to reach.
So far we have worked with the University and local Councils to write to private landlords asking them to share the financial burden with our students.
