This morning, Staffordshire University students who had purchased tickets for the event received the following email:
Good morning,
As we’re sure you’re already aware, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has meant that it’s now vital to limit social contact and avoid mass gatherings. For that reason, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel our Sports Awards, which was initially re-scheduled for 11th September 2020. While we know this is disappointing, we hope you can understand the decision we have made to help keep our staff and students safe.
What happens next?
We’ll be processing refunds for everyone who bought a ticket to our Sports Awards. If you have any questions or concerns, please take a look at our FAQs below.
The good news is: we’re going to be moving our Sports Awards online. We’ll be announcing our nominees and winners on our @SportatStaffs Social Media channels on Wednesday 1st July from 13:00.

Why are you cancelling the event now?
Based on current Government guidelines and University’s approach to returning to campus in September 2020, it is unlikely mass gatherings will be able to take place.
I’ve bought a ticket, when will I be refunded and do I need to do anything?
You don’t need to do anything to receive your refund. We have sent attendees details to our Finance team, who are working hard to process your refund. This should be received by Friday 3rd July, but the team is significantly reduced, so please be patient with us.
When and where will the Sports Awards be?
Our Sports Awards nominees and winners will be announced via social media on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. They will be posted on Wednesday 1st July 2020 from 13:00 onwards.
I have won an award, when will I receive my certificate?
All our winners will be sent an electronic copy of their certificate after the event. We would also extend an invitation for them attend our 2021 awards ceremony to be presented with a physical copy in person.
Will there be a Sports Awards in 2021?
We hope so! Our event usually takes place in April/May, so we will keep you informed with details when we start planning.
I’m a final year and this was my last Sports Awards event.
We know that this decision is disappointing for so many of our students, particularly those in their final year. Next year’s event will be open to 2020 Graduates to purchase tickets, to attend.
