Dance Club, Cheerleading Club, Cue Sports

Here's a round up of the nominations:

Dance Club

  • The committee prepared an organised their members (over 20) for competitions in both Nottingham, placing 3rd for Jazz and 4th for Contemporary dance styles, and competed in Sheffield
  • Arranged multiple opportunities for members to develop various dance styles through an external dance instructor and their committee instructor, Emily Pugh, they also negotiated the use of a local College’s facilities  
  • Actively supported all the Students’ Union campaigns, and promoted a Safe Nights Out which ran alongside the Spiking awareness campaign

Cheerleading Club

  • Raised over a hundred pounds for the Movember charity by organising a raffle
  • Came 4th in a national Legacy cheer and dance competition, held in Birmingham, and came 1st in the Ice Cooler competition, hosted at Fenton Manor Leisure Centre in Stoke-on-Trent
  • Committee have worked tireless to prepare and organise their members (over 20) for multiple events, including varsity. This includes arranging transport, and have already planned their end of year awards evening
  • Both the committee and its members invest a great deal of time to plan weekly sessions, competition preparations, and the massive logistics involved in booking and getting them to and from events
  • Supported various BUCS team through half time cheers and attending home and away games
  • Consistently engaged and provided various support to their members through personal messages of encouragement, and by creating a QR code which signposted people to mental health and financial support services

Cue Sports

  • Raised hundreds of pounds for various charities including Macmillan Cancer Support and Women’s Aid, and their committee participated in the Big Sleep Out raising another £100 for the Stoke City Community Trust
  • Attended a tournament hosted by Warwick University, winning a shield
  • Created a Cue Sports networking group that consists of 34 Cue Sports committee members from universities across England, Scotland, and Wales to arrange matches and offer advice
  • Hosted a tournament (Best Before Bucs) within Longton snooker, inviting 25 teams (128 students) to compete over two days for trophies, medals, and cash prizes
  • Attended Bucs and placed: Men’s Shield – 3rd; Women’s Trophy – 2nd
  • Negotiated a sponsorship deal with ABC Managed Services, the proceeds of which fully funded all the team’s shirts
