Uni Recycling - what YOU said

Totally Rubbish or Bincredible? We asked students in Halls about on campus recycling!

mainSustainability

During Green Week 2020 VP Anaida asked on campus halls students about rubbish, and your response was anything but trashy.

And, thanks to everyone who took the time to fill in our quick-fire survey – we’ll take all your feedback to the Uni when we meet with the sustainability group.

So what did you say?

The good news – that vast majority of students’ in halls are able to get rid of the rubbish they have easily, have enough bin space and are happy with the waste provision in halls!

The bad news? Over 70% of you thought that recycling provision was worse  (60 % 'moderately' or 'much') than the recycling you have at home.

Generally, you thought that the University would be matching the UK target of 50% recycling by the end of 2020, but you also thought that the campus was a little way off achieving this at nearly 30% recycling.

When we gave you the real numbers – some of you didn’t hold back describing it as “regrettable”, “preventable” and “disappointing” with the university being 10% behind the average student perceptions.

Recycling on campus and especially in halls has been a long-standing issue and the Officers have been passing on your concerns. Hopefully the new sustainability group will mean that we are able to set some ambitious target not only for now but also for students in the future too.
