Opportunity description:

Home-Start Staffordshire Moorlands is an independent, local charity who have supported families across the Staffordshire Moorlands for 25 years.  In the last year the scheme has supported over 100 families, helping to transform the lives of 246 children with 49 individuals volunteering for the charity.  Over the past 25 years the scheme has supported thousands of families and children across the district and have trained over 1,000 volunteers. Being a trustee is all about the governance of the charity - could you use your skills, knowledge and experience to help plan and oversee how we support families in our community.

We are currently looking for an individual with specific skills in accounting, funding, financial oversight and governance, alongside any additional experience of small business management.  This trustee role would provide oversight and support to the Finance Administration and Data Reporting Officer if required when setting budgets and preparing annual accounts, along with the board level oversight of management accounts.

Trustees / non-executive directors are both charity trustees and company directors of Home-Start Staffordshire Moorlands. Their role is to:

  • manage the business of the scheme.
  • ensure compliance with the scheme’s charitable objects and with company and charity law.
  • contribute to financial and business planning for sustainability and potential growth.
  • assist with the recruitment of staff.
  • hold the Scheme Manager to account, while supporting the staff team.

What are we looking for?

  • commitment to the aims, principles and policies of the organisation.
  • willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as trustees, and to act in the best interests of the organisation.
  • ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member.
  • effective communication skills and an ability to understand and question financial records and accounts.
  • experience of change management, risk analysis, succession planning, quality assurance, IT development and / or human resources would be advantageous.

The trustee board meets 6-weekly and the meeting usually last around two hours, either face-to-face at our office in Leek or remotely via Zoom.

If you think you have what we’re looking for, we’d love to hear from you.

To find out more please get in touch. We can either send out an application pack or we can arrange an initial telephone discussion with our Chair.
