We asked Tash

Why did you run for Officer?

I didn't have the greatest academic experience, just because my course was cut at the start of my second year, meaning that any students joining this year will be the last Music Journalism and Broadcasting students at Staffordshire University. It was hard to engage with the course. I didn't want other students to have to through what I went through, and don't want anyone to have a negative experience.

What are your key focuses this year?

I'm focusing a lot on sports, mental health and wellbeing. I'm also focusing a lot on equality.

What do you hope to achieve by this time next year?

This is going to sound corny. My strand is belonging and I want people to feel they're a part of Staffs and I want them to actually miss us when they go home. As long as I achieve that I'll be buzzing.

What surprised you the most when you started University?

I thought I wouldn't get homesick because I'd had experience of living away from home beforehand. The first night I ended up not wanting to leave my room, and luckily I had confident housemates who built me up. I was surprised at how I thought I knew myself and then at how much I came out of my shell.

What are three tips you would give to someone starting University?

- Learn how to cook basic meals! You don't want to be living off ready meals.

- Don't be afraid to ask questions, in any situation.

- Be yourself.

Were you involved in any clubs or societies or any other Union or University facilitated things?

I was a part of One Media Group for two years, and the final of those years I was deputy station manager. I was also a member of Staffs TV for a year. I've been a part of netball for my full three years was communications officer and social sec for them. I've also been a part of American Football for two years and was their social sec too.

Did you work whilst studying?

I didn't. I don't think I had the time because I was doing so many extra-curricular activities.

Tell us one thing about you that people might not know:

I played at Download Festival four years ago!

What would you name your boat if you had one?

Sea & Crumpets.

What is your spirit animal?

I want my spirit animal to be Montana from Love Island! She's incredible.

How would your best friends describe you?

Weird, sporty and motivated.

What would you choose as your final meal?

I’d probably have a Chicken Legend style burger, but add mac and cheese and chili con carne on the burger. And guacamole. And mozzarella. Add a little bit of barbeque sauce to that. And then have a side of Frankie and Benny’s cheese and bacon fries. And a triple-layered cheesecake with a chocolate brownie and cookie base, with a salted caramel sauce. And vanilla ice cream. And a pint of Pepsi Max Cherry and a really thick Oreo shake.

Can you speak more than one language?

I learnt French and Spanish in school, and I've picked up little bits on my travels to Germany and Portugal. I can't speak any of them well. I want to be fluent in French, Spanish and Italian.

What is your favourite recipe, and alternatively, what's your favourite way to exercise?

My favourite recipe is my homemade chili con carne. I make it all from scratch and it's so easy to make. In terms of exercise, it sounds so strange - but I really enjoy doing core circuits. I do mixes of crunches, sit ups, pulls and so much more.

What is your favourite Union venue and why?

Squeezebox! I love their coffee and smoothies and I can't stop drinking their Vegan Soya Mocha, it's incredible!

What is your favourite motivational quote?

“Mistakes come from doing, but so does success”
