Social art is a society which works to establish a community of artists within the university. This is to counter the loneliness that comes from an individual hobby like art. Working hard on a piece is fulfilling but it's not particularly a social activity. Social art aims to change this.
The sessions of the society are more like a gathering/meet up than anything. Everyone brings their own art supplies and simply make art together. Members can teach one another techniques and pass on tips and tricks. But mainly we're all in this group to make friends and just enjoy our hobby with company.
Don't worry about needing to be an artist to join up though! If you want to get into art/reignite the spark within you, you are more than welcome to join us! You can borrow supplies from a member, learn from everyone and develop your talent in like-minded company! If you do decide to join us, we'll even set you up with some basic equipment to get you started.
Membership is free and you can join at any time! Though if you want to bring in any biscuits for the sessions we won't say no! If you're interested, send an email and we'll let you know when the next meet-up will be (Usually Wednesday afternoons). Attendance is not complusory week to week, just send one of the committee members a message to let us know not to expect you if you're not attending a session.
We now have a consistent room to use: Ashley 2 Building, room LW035, every Wednesday, 2pm - 5pm. However this is subject to change if we need a room with a larger capacity. Keep an eye on our Facebook page or the Union page for any updates.
