The last few weeks have been spent focusing on universities that surround Staffs in the BUCS leagues, looking at how they differ in their approach to sport from Staffs. It has been noted that these universities have a completely different approach to sport in that they don't rely on the facilities they have. Despite adequate facilities being far from scarce, these universities tend to focus more on the support offered to students. For example, sports players tend to benefit more from partnerships with the local community or other local sports teams, scholarships and high performance schemes that are offered and access to coaching.
As well as this, I am also in the middle of researching the relationship between regional leagues and sporting success. As of yet, there doesn't appear to be an overly strong connection.
