Beacon Esports works commence on Wednesday 15 November 2023

The majority of works will be taking place on the first floor of Beacon in Rooms T101, T103 and T104. This means that students and staff will not be able to access the first floor of the Beacon building whilst work is carried out. The contractor will be using the fire escape stairs as their primary route to the first floor to ensure your safety.

Beacon building project works

Following our recent announcement of a £2.9m investment to expand our Esports facilities at our College Road site in Stoke-on-Trent, we’re now pleased to share that work on the project will commence next week.

Works will run from Wednesday 15 November 2023 to the end of February 2024, and will see a bespoke Esports Arena and a studio with dedicated broadcast galleries created in the Beacon building.

Access to the Beacon building The majority of works will be taking place on the first floor of Beacon in Rooms T101, T103 and T104. This means that students and staff will not be able to access the first floor of the Beacon building whilst work is carried out. The contractor will be using the fire escape stairs as their primary route to the first floor to ensure your safety.

The Ground floor, second floor, and Pavilion Burrito and Wrap Bar will remain open and accessible throughout the duration of the works, via the main entrances to the front and side of the building (shown below).

Accessing the Mellor Building The Mellor building will remain accessible via the front entrance.

Beacon and Mellor car park on College Road A contractor compound will be set up in the car park by the Beacon and Mellor Buildings, with contractors moving between the compound and the Beacon building throughout the duration of the project.

Whilst the car park will remain open, please be aware that the compound will occupy a small number of spaces. Additional parking spaces are available by the Performance Centre/Campus Hub and behind the Henrion and Flaxman buildings, as well as on the University’s Leek Road site.

Every effort will be made to minimise noise disruption during these works, however, there will be some noise associated with this project due to the nature of the work being carried out.

Estates and Commercial Services apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for your patience and cooperation whilst these important campus transformation works take place on campus.
