Spotlight of the week - creative writing

Writing is important for communication. It needs creativity and resilience. Writers craft engaging stories, inviting readers into new worlds and nurturing a love for reading. The Creative Writing Society at Staffs is a recently revived club revolving around everything to do with writing. Having held the first taster session in February, the society is dedicated to exploring creativity and self-expression through writing in a fun and welcoming environment.

The society is headed by Ben Targett, with Sophie Phillips as Communications Officer and Aaliyah Begum-Ali as Finance Officer.

Though still in its early stages of development, the society has a member led approach aiming to encourage shaping the society. Whether you show up to write independently or get involved with the session, the society is here to support and encourage you in it.

The Creative Writing Society Events and Activities

Most of the society’s sessions will revolve around writing workshops. These include themed writing activities, scriptwriting, reviews, reflections, editorial practice, constructive feedback on personal projects and casual tutorials regarding authors, genres, and themes.

Additional events and activities include, but are not limited to, book discussions, private publishing of our best work, competitions within the society and the chance to enter competitions like ‘NaNoWriMo’! Since the society is member-led, more projects will be announced as we progress through the year.
