?As we are reaching that time of year when things are getting quieter on campus and students are starting to go home, here are just a few tips to keep you safe!

  1. When walking around campus, especially at night, ensure you are walking with a friend or group. If you have to be alone, check in with a friend along the way.

  2. Consider booking a safe taxi from our safer taxi scheme (after 10pm). Read more here:

  3. When walking around campus at night, keep to high-traffic, well-lit areas.

  4. Download the Safezone app.

  5. If you carry a bag, wear it close to your chest rather than on your back.

  6. If you see anything you think is suspicious, REPORT IT to 999 or Safezone. Especially keep an eye out for people trying to hide their appearance (perhaps wearing balaclavas and scarfs) or acting strangely, perhaps scoping out someone's accommodation. The more that is reported, the more policing resources are likely to be allocated to that area.

  7. Keep your doors, gates and windows locked. The majority of burglaries happen when opportunist thieves see a premises has been left unsecured.

  8. When you are loading up your car, perhaps when moving back home, keep your vehicle locked between trips to your accommodation.
