The Students’ Union Officer Team have met with both UCU representatives and the University Chief Operating Officer to understand the issues that are currently in dispute.

The Students’ Union understands the concerns voiced by UCU around inequality, casualisation, staff workload and below inflation pay rises.

After consulting our student body, through our course representatives, the Students’ Union Officer Team and Rep Council have come to the decision to support the latest round of UCU strikes. With academic representatives feeding back two-thirds of students canvassed were supportive of academic actions.

"We believe there is no place for inequality in our education system today in any form. We are in the midst of a Cost of Living Crisis and as such we also believe that the staff that teach our students deserve a fair wage which reflects the current economic climate, whilst the casualisation of our teaching force is a dangerous, unpredictable position to be put in as an employee, especially when workloads are becoming more and more unmanageable.
