I am glad to announce the university has taken further steps for those students in on campus accommodation. From meetings with the university and Students' Union discussions have been had regarding those students still in campus accommodation. These decisions being:
- Students who have chosen to return home and leave University managed accommodation will not be charged for their third term.
- Students who have stayed living in University managed accommodation, will receive a 30% reduction off of their third term fees.
- Care experienced or estranged students who are staying in University managed accommodation will not be required to pay their final term fees (if their local authority has not committed to paying this on their behalf).
Along with the food packages from the university yet again I think this one huge step for students.
Following the private landlord sector, after writing a letter to our local MP Jo Gideon and asking for support it was disappointing to see that she did not sign the letter to support students in private accommodation. Following this I will be addressing other MPs to rally support.
I will also be contacting landlords to reduce bill payments for students living in the house on there own. Why are you paying for a full house of electricity if you're the only one living there?
