How is sport being run next year?

All BUCS Sports Clubs will be supported and administered by the University’s Sports Development team and will operate a flat rate membership fee of £60* (inc insurance).*American Football will cost £100 per person (inc insurance) due to the significantly higher running costs for training, equipment and officials etc.

All non BUCS Sports clubs and student groups will continue to be supported and administered by the Students’ Union with ongoing support from Sports Development for non-weekly BUCS Competition entry. These groups membership costs will be calculated in line with their running costs and sports.

What if I don’t want to compete?

You can still join and train with our BUCS clubs for the same price of £60 or you can take part in our recreational and intermural sport supported through the Active Staffs sport & wellbeing program. This will cost £25 per person for the year.

Active Staffs

Annual Cost: £25

Includes:

  • Access to a weekly recreational programme

  • Free Off Peak Access to facilities (such as the Astro-turf)

  • A Competitive intermural programme

  • Access to our ‘Fun Fridays’ Sport programme.

  • Reduced cost coaching courses.

  • Access to our recreational swimming programme at Fenton Manor.

  • Access to our Health and Wellbeing programme.

Non BUCS Clubs

Annual Cost: Dependent on the Club

Includes:

  • Support finding fully qualified Coach (in line with Governing Body requirements)

  • Weekly Training times

  • Competition Entry

  • Affiliations

  • Insurance (Both Public Liability and Personal Accident)

  • Access to Strength and Conditioning Support.

Extras (that come at an additional cost):

  • Access to reduced Kit bundles.

  • Discount Gym Membership

  • Kit

  • Tours and Trips

  • Discount Sports Awards Tickets.

BUCS Staffs

Annual Cost: £60

Includes:

  • A fully qualified Coach (in line with Governing Body requirements) provided and managed by the Sports Development Team.

  • Match/Training facilities for each club (On-site and External)

  • Transport to Away Games

  • BUCS Playing kit

  • Equipment (including equipment for long term or trial loans)

  • BUCS and other necessary Affiliations

  • Payment of match day officials

  • Insurance (Both Public Liability and Personal Accident)

  • Access to Strength and Conditioning Support.

Extras (that come at an additional cost):

  • Access to reduced Kit bundles.

  • Discount Gym Membership

  • Varsity Kit

  • Tours and Trips

  • Discount Sports Awards Tickets.

 

Where can I buy my membership?

All memberships will be available to purchase through the Students’ Union Website and the Sports Centre reception.

 

How will Sports Clubs be run?

All Sports Clubs will continue to be led by 3 committee positions with the responsibility for day to day running of the Club. Committees will ultimately be responsible for the club development but where a Coach is a place they will be responsible for team selection and training. These positions will be:

  • Club Manager

  • Finance Manager

  • Welfare & Communications Manager

 

What if the Sports Development team can't find my BUCS team a qualified coach?

The Sports Development team will finance and send one member of the club on a coaching course if a qualified coach can't be found. This member will then become the designated qualified coach.

 

Who do I contact in the Sports Department if I want to go on a coaching course, or find out what coaching courses are coming to Staffs?

Arron Dunn is the Sports Centre's Engagement Co-ordinator, he will have all the information about coaching courses and will be the contact to go through to book onto one. These will be an additional cost if you choose to go on one. Arron can be contacted via email at a.dunn@staffs.ac.uk.

 

How will students lead Sport?

This year will see the launch of a Sports Executive Committee with representation from Club Committees and Student Officers and will be support by SU and University Staff. The group will be responsible for:

  • Setting the direction for the development and delivery of Sport at Staffs.

  • Approval of future Competition and League entries e.g. BUCS participation or inclusion in Varsity.

  • Planning of large sporting events such as Varsity and Awards Night.

  • Supporting fundraising and community initiatives,

 

I’m a committee member, who should I go to for support?

All BUCS Clubs committee members will be administered by the Sports Development team based in the University. They will be able to support Clubs with all elements of club operation and delivery including fixtures, trips and discipline. Support will be available from the Students’ Union around representation and student development

All non-BUCS Clubs will be administered by the Students’ Union based on College Road. They will be able to support Clubs in all elements of club operation and delivery including fixtures, trips and discipline. Support will be available from the Sports Development team for facilities and non-weekly BUCS Competition entry

 

When are my training times/ Trials for next year?

All Sports Clubs training times, schedule for trails/taster sessions and details for Welcome fair will be emailed to committee members by 19th July.

 

How does it compare to other Universities?

Because students have told us that affordability on campus is a high priority, we’ve made sure it is amongst the cheapest University Sports membership fee in the country.
