Can student volunteers help you climb to your full potential?
Are you a community, charity or public sector organisation? Or are you a community group looking to have a bigger impact in your community? Are you even a student with a vision of supporting a community interest?
Staffordshire University Students’ Union is here to support you every step of the way, be this in hosting a promotional event or increasing your volunteer base to increase the impact of your work. Our students study everything from Games Design through to Midwifery and are looking for opportunities to share their enthusiasm and experiences!
Advertising Volunteering Roles
The Students' Union Volunteering Scheme is your way to reach Staffordshire University students and we make every effort to spread your messages effectively. We appreciate just how many pressures there are on your time and so have invested in a purpose built system, designed to make advertising your volunteer roles quick, simple and really worthwhile!
To advertise your opportunities you will need to register your organisation by clicking here.
If you're already registered with us, you can login here to review applications or maintain details.
We require a certain level of information when you register – this is nothing to worry about! We want to make sure that we can provide a unique support package for your organisation and so need to learn a little more about you. This includes:
Some information about your organisation and its mission and vision
The details of each role you have available
Information about how students can apply (and how we can support you in selecting volunteers)
Contact details, solely for the use of the Students' Union, so we can keep you up to date with news and events
How will the Students' Union Volunteering Scheme advertise my opportunity?
We do everything we can to make sure your message reaches the right volunteers! However, as a University supportive of Green Impact we discourage the use of flyers and posters; plus these are really expensive so we hope to save you some of your budget too!
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it cost to advertise volunteering roles with the Students' Union?
Nothing, other than your time and commitment! Volunteering benefits the community and our students in fantastic ways - we work hard to keep our work cost neutral and support you for far longer.
I’m not a charity can I use the service?
Any organisation, from any sector, can offer volunteering opportunities to our student community. However, the role must visibly benefit the community and not merely replace a paid member of staff.
If you are interested in offering a voluntary placement year, internship or other similar package our careers centre would love to hear from you. Please email email@example.com for more information.
How long does the process take?
We want to make sure that you get the perfect, motivated and passionate volunteer. Most opportunities will get a volunteer within around 4 weeks, but this is only a guideline!
Can I promote my organisation at on campus events?
We recognise that time is money and so try to find the best way for you to interact directly with students – charity fairs and large scale events just don’t give you the time to get to know our students! We’ll keep you informed when opportunities arise and our main opportunities are during Welcome Week in September each year.
Why do you not want me to send posters/flyers?
Students are bombarded with posters, leaflets and hand-outs every day and so, unless yours is shaped like a house or has the name of a national pizza chain on the front, the chances are that your investment will be wasted. Also we’re really keen to protect the environment and so preventing this waste (and unnecessary printing!) is a big thing for us here at Staffordshire University.
How do I know if a student is interested?
The student can apply directly to you using our online system, this will email you to let you know that a student is interested and updates the database automatically. For this to be available you will need to register for a website account and post your opportunities to the website. (This doesn’t take much time at all and gives you full control over your advertisements!)
Do students require Disclosure and Barring Service (Previously CRB) checks?
This depends entirely upon what your volunteers are going to be doing and in what circumstances. If a volunteer is working in close contact with a Child or Vulnerable Adult then the check is likely required but elements such as supervision can alter this. Also, your organisation’s risk management or safeguarding policies may answer this question directly.
