Volunteering with the Staffordshire University Sports Coach and Volunteer Academy

Want to gain that valuable experience employers are looking for, then look no further. Our sports coach and volunteer workforce offers students studding a range of degrees, the opportunity to get involved in a variety of areas to help harness and develop the skills they attain such as; coaching, officiating & umpiring, , organising & planning events, marketing & promotion, journalism & filming (of sporting events) and photography.

We work closely with our partners to offer opportunities internally and externally and if we don’t have an opportunity you are looking for, we will certainly help you find it.  

 

Coach Internship Programme

To stand out a make an impact in sports coaching you need training and experience. Here is your opportunity to gain both! Our Sports Internships offer students the opportunity to shadow experienced coaches and deliver sessions in schools and clubs within the local community. All our programmes are designed around students gaining sufficient knowledge and experience to become better coaches.

Coach Education Opportunities

"Be one step ahead of the game" and train up to be an amazing coach. The Sir Stanley Matthews Sports Centre offers a wide range of Courses to support your development as a coach. Below are some of the upcoming opportunities:

The FA Level 1 in Coaching Football
28th October 10am - 29th October 6pm
Sir Stanley Matthews Sports Centre
The FA Level 1 in Coaching Football is the first stepping-stone on the core coaching pathway. It will provide you with an introduction to coaching the game and working with players from under 7 to open age.
LTA Tennis Teachers Training

Step 1

Register on the Volunteering Toolkit

Registering as a volunteer with your Students' Union allows you to keep a record of your hours, skill and achievements, updates your Higher Education Achievement Record, opens up a whole host of Training and Development Opportunities and gives you access to our online database of opportunities.

Step 2

You Express Interest

Apply quickly and easily using our online expression of interest system with just a few clicks of your mouse.

Simply find the role that suits you and click 'Express Interest!'

Note that expressing your interest is very different to completing your application for a role. Some organisations are happy to have a casual conversation with you over coffee, where some require you to complete a full application form. Our system will let you know what you need to do to apply fully when you express interest.

Step 3

You Train Up and Join In! 

If you are sucessful, a volunteer coordinator from your chosen organisation will be in touch with you directly to make the arrangements for any training you might need and when your first day will be.

 

 

Where is the Sports Volunteer Academy based?

The Sports Volunteer Academy is managed by the Sir Stanley Matthews Sports Centre team. The Sports Centre can be found next to the LRV, opposite the astro-turf Pitch.

*DBS are available to volunteers meeting the appropriate criteria. Placement Students are not permitted to claim DBS checks via the Students' Union. Subject to your volunteering being confirmed with a Volunteering Coordinator. DBS Checks are a function of the Home Office and Students' Union DBS Checks are facilitated by an intermediary organisation.
