Proposed pledge for position of President

After being a member of the society for the last three years and your current finance officer, I have grown close to many of the people involved and I have gathered a range of feedback from the members. From this I have put together a plan to help grow and improve the society.

To start off with I would like to talk about the work that we have done this year as a committee:

What we originally set out to achieve for the society:

  • Approachable committee members
  • Stronger presence within the society
  • Better understanding of the groups’ wants and capabilities/interest
  • Better knowledge of how to budget correctly

What we have achieved:

  • All of the above
  • Grown the amount of memberships by 45% (compared to 2018/19)
  • Created the number 1 Rock & Metal radio show within the university
  • Raised hundreds (official amount to be confirmed) for charities such as Movember and The Uprawr Mental Health Foundation
  • Created and planned a range of different types of events that we had not seen in previous years

We still have a lot more on our bucket list for the second half of the year and these are things that not only myself, but I hope you all will enjoy as well. Over this semester and a half myself, Adam and Henry have lived and breathed this society putting in countless hours to ensure it is truly the best that it can be for you guys. Although there is still a lot that can be done and with the amount of new things we have put into place this year I am running for a second year as committee to ensure that all of our hard work this year continues for years to come.

Plan for RAMS 20/21:

  • Ensure that the committee stays reliable, approachable and trustworthy
  • Break previous membership records and grow the society as much as possible
  • Freeze membership prices at £5
  • Keep regular events every one to two weeks (including Invasions, Rock Karaoke and socials such as Devil’s Nights, Flashback Fridays’ and pub meet ups)
  • Plan more casual pub meet ups (especially towards the start of the year)
  • Release the RAMS merch ready for January loan (as this year it will be released ready for April student loan)
  • Continue raising for charity and hopefully break this years total
  • Expand on ‘The Rock Invasion’ radio show
  • Continue the RAMS camp at Download Festival
  • Organise more non drinking socials such as trips and meals (don’t worry there are some planned after loan drops for this year)
  • More collab events (due to the amazing success that was the Valentines Invasion)

Marketing Strategy:

  • Initial Stall at Freshers Fair (Items on hand such as sweets, stickers, badges, etc.)
  • Pamphlets and posters advertising that semesters’ events
  • Posters around campus (Halls, SU, local pubs, handed out by members)
  • Getting events put onto the calendars handed to freshers and the posters outside verve
  • T shirts advertised in October/November, so will be ready for sale when members receive January student loan
  • Pub Crawl t shirts ready for same time

I am honestly so excited to see what will happen within the next year of RAMS and I really hope you all trust in me and elect me to be your RAMS President for 2020/21.
