A Catalyst for Change

I’m Amanda, a School of Health & Social Care student.

From my role as Department Rep for Social Work & Social Welfare I have championed for my Department and beyond supporting some amazing game changers along the way. I have also been a Student Trustee for the last 2 years.

From signposting and using our fantastic services myself, arranging meetings with the university from course leads to Associate Deans, to representing the student voice across campuses and working with our fantastic Course and Department Reps to ensure students are heard and changes are made to support the most important part of Staffs.

A vote for me is a vote for my key manifesto points:

  • Teamwork makes the Dream Work – every student should be encouraged to support each other regardless of school/ campus.
  • Better Communication – I want to ensure the university are open and honest with clear communication, comms should also be tailored to the School in question and suit different styles of communication.
  • Mental Health Support – More in-depth support for students especially those on placements who can’t do appointments that are 9-5 – As department rep I have raised this and actively work with the union and university staff to improve this.
  • Safety for Students – Student safety regardless of campus should be imperative
  • Rep training and support – I was very lucky and had fantastic support from university staff also as a department rep, but our course reps deserve more than an online training programme and should never feel like they are not supported and are dispensable.
  • Teach Outs – This should not change your experience; I aim to ensure transparency to support students from start to finish.

I promise to support all students from start to finish
