Hey there everyone! I am Henry, some of you might know me from Karaoke, Invasions, or other Students’ Union events. I am running for Communications Officer for 2023/24, a role that I fulfilled in 2019/20.
With my time at R.A.M.S. I have met some of the kindest, compassionate, and good-willed people I could ever hope to know, and I very much hope that my efforts as Comms Officer can help to make it even more special for you guys than it was for me! (And that is a VERY big challenge!)
So, what exactly do I bring to the table? Well:
- Experience and connections; as a former Communications Officer, I am familiar with the post and the types of responsibilities it entails. The importance of good communication between event organisers, R.A.M.S., venues, and the Students’ Union is essential for a safe and fun time! It also helps significantly that I have previously communicated with these types of places and people before.
- Availability; I am a part-time Games Design student, as a result I only have lectures and workshops twice a week. This allows me a lot of time to take on necessary activities on behalf of R.A.M.S., I also work at Ember as a Staff Member, so I will also be next door to the Union building quite reliably and can pop my head round the corner whenever anything needs to be sorted with them.
- Clarity; I fully intend to release a “what’s on” every week with events, times, and details in the form of Discord and Facebook posts, including a monthly variant for bigger and pre-planned events. Alongside organising a semesterly calendar for big events that will be available on those platforms and Instagram! There’s nothing worse than looking to go to an event that has been mistakenly left out of an update post and then finding out you’ve made plans for that day! I intend to make sure such problems are avoided through frequent communication.
- Presence and approachability; I fully intend to be out and about on campus and in venues next year, and this could result in impromptu R.A.M.S. meetups, and also allows me to talk a lot more to everyone about what they desire in terms of event ideas, tweaks to weekly events, and other things to bring up to the committee meetings! I will be your voice in terms of events and organizational communications after all!
In summary, I am confident that there will be amazing things coming to R.A.M.S. next year, and I hope I can be your Comms Officer for it!
