Candidate for the position of Cheerleading Club - Finance Officer

Krista-Rose Mccartney

Ever since joining at the start of the year I’ve fallen in love with cheerleading, so I have the societies best intentions at heart. I’d love to see us succeed and get the very best results possible in the next season.

At Staffordshire university I study psychology, which means I do a lot of analysing/critical thinking, evaluating and problem solving, as a part of becoming a psychologist. I think that this would be great qualities in a financial officer because I can come up with solutions to problems, for example when funds become low, but we still need to pay for x, y and z, and evaluating the pros and the cons of where we are spending the money and what outcomes are we going to have as a result.

I believe that I would be a great financial officer for the scarlettes cheerleading society, because I really care about our team. A financial officer should have good intentions when managing the money on behalf of the team so that the money is spent wisely and in a way that will benefit everyone.

Furthermore, I’m a very organised person I like to stay on top of my assignments and not get behind; timetabling, scheduling and making lists to make sure everything gets done, which I think would be good qualities in someone who is finance officer. Remembering to get in early entries for competition and book transport for everyone.

I’m a great communicator.  I like to think that I’m a people person and that I’m very sociable, something that a finance officer needs for committee meetings about the use of the money and voicing my opinion on spending.

As financial officer, I would utilise our fundraising account to fund extra training sessions at facilities such as the gymnastic centre before comp to practice routines. I would look at buying new equipment such as new matts for example securing more of the carpeted red matts which are bigger, safer and resemble more of a competition floor so that our team is effectively training at sessions, ready for competition.

Being financial officer, I would sort out music, venue hire, transport to comp, comp fees, kits, merchandise and anything else that is required from the current account, and I’m happy to work with coaches and support them with what they need from a finance officer.

My vison would be us to climb higher at competitions, I think with the right tools and putting the money in the right places, we give ourselves the best chances. I would like to see the team get better with tumbling and be able to compete in the level 2 tumbling category, so securing more tumbling lessons from momentum all-star cheerleading coaches for the 2023/2024 season, would be something I’d love to financially organise and keep them at their affordable price for all team members.
