National Student Demonstration 2016

Next Saturday, November 19th, students from around the UK will descend on Westminster to have their say on the education policies currently implemented by parliament.

The national demonstration will be an opportunity to bring together thousands of students, united by the issues that affect them the most, marching through central London to a rally at Millbank, between the Palace of Westminster and the river Thames.

Whether it’s against ever-rising tuition fees, the scrapping of NUS bursaries or the huge levels of graduate debt, the students’ union have made it as easy as possible for you to join the protest and make the student voice as loud as it can be.

A coach will take you from the Staffordshire University Stoke-on-Trent campus on the morning of the 19th (7.30am in the LRV car park) to the meeting point on Park Lane and then back once the demonstration has ended, at around 4.30pm. All this requires is a £5 deposit payment, booked through the union website. Check out the event page here.

The NUS demo schedule:

12pm: The march assembles on Park Lane.

1pm: The march sets off on its 2.4-mile route to Millbank, Westminster. See the route map, courtesy of the NUS and UCU, below.

2.45pm: Rally begins featuring speakers such as Angela Rayner MP (Shadow Secretary of State for Education); activist George the Poet; and various NUS and UCU representatives.

3.45pm: Rally ends.
